India a Kaleidoscope of Civilization

India is a kaleidoscope of civilizations. Great urdu poet Raghupati sahai firaq Gourakhpuri rightly said Sarzameen-e hind par aqwam-e aalam ka firaq Qafle guzarte gaye, hindustan banta gaya Various races have been migrating and settling here. Aryans, Mongols, Caucasians and even Dravidans who were once considered to be native of India came from outside. Diversifications in traditions, culture, beliefs make it a truly diverse country. The harmonious co-existence of diverse traditions makes India a unique nation in making. Unity in diversity is the hallmark of India. This idea of India faces serious threat when some group promotes ideology of division among people, when some fringe elements succeed in promoting communal agenda. It frustrates people when parochialism still exist, when untouchability is still a reality, when communalism is still practiced, when gender discrimination is tolerated, when corrupts still rule the roost. At this juncture when our country is poise...

Economic Distribution and Conflict

“There is enough in this world for everybody’s need not enough for anybody’s greed”. Mahatma Gandhi says. The skewed distribution of resources in the world germinates conflict in society and among nations. The insatiable greed of haves to acquire more is depriving have‐nots of their survivability. A study by World University for development economic research at United Nations University reports that the richest 1% of adult alone owned 40% of global assets in the year 2000. The three richest person possess more financial assets than the lowest 48 nations. This economic inequality creates conflict between haves and have‐nots which come to fore in the garb of religious conflict, sectarian conflict, cast conflict, racial conflict, and civilization conflict. The violent reaction of deprived and suppressed is termed as terrorism, naxalism, militancy etc. In fact, all these originate from the fight for resources. Akbar Alahabadi truly says, KapRe kisi ke lal hain roti ke waste Lambe kisi ke b...

JOURNEY ON A FULL MOON

It is a full moonlit night and I am traveling by a train. Sampoorn kranti express train is in its full motion to reach its destination the next day. The train is running through the Gangetic plain disturbing tranquility of this area. The silver sheet of moonlight spreading in the plain presents an attractive scene. The moon now hides in the cloud and darkness prevails all around. This temporary darkness reminds us of short phase of gloom in our lives. The moon appears once again and removes darkness. There is always dawn(light) after dark night. The train is crossing an overbridge now. The river beneath has plenty of water which glistens on reflection of light. This east flowing river will meet the Ganges and will lose its own identity. The Ganges which originates from Gangotri in Uttrakhand will eventually fall in the Bay of Bengal. The supreme sacrifice of the tributaries teaches us to lose our own identity for the sake of greater cause. Now the train passes across a small tow...
