Faith wins over Law

Primitive man lived in a stateless society with unlimited sovereignty. Human Life was nasty, brutish and short. There was "war of all against all". People realised need of an entity which might protect their interest. They created state and surrendered their sovereignty to it. Hobbes, Lockes and Rousseau termed it "Social Contract" . State in turn ensured rule of law and protected interest of its people.. India became a democratic republic after independence and opted for secularism and socialism to ensure justice, liberty and equality to all of its citizens. Indian populace comprises of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and followers of many other religious groups. These groups have many sects within it. People have identity on religious, regional, lingual and cultural bases. We witness conflict among groups for a number of reasons. To resolve these conflicts and ensure peaceful coexistence of various groups warrants strict practice of constitutionalism and

Dowry a curse

Dowry as per Webster's dictionary is the money, goods, or estate that a woman brings to her husband. As per the dowry prohibition act 1961, dowry means any property or valuable security to be given or agreed to be given directly or indirectly - By one party to the marriage to other party to the marriage; or By the parents of either party to a marriage or by any other person, to either party to the marriage or any other person; Menace of dowry has spread to every section of Indian society irrespective of religious, regional, cultural groups because of insatiable materialism, greed and tendency to easy acquisition of wealth. It is observed that parents spend rather invest in the career building of male child to reap return on investment in the form of dowry. The girl child on the other hand is considered to be huge liability on parents. The girl child becomes eternal burden for parents as grooms' side always expect favor in money and kind. This lead to gloom on birth of a girl in

Maa

Imagine mother and statue of compassion, love and sacrifice comes in mind. We call her by Amma ammi mummy ma mai mom mum and by many other names. We can call her by any name but traits of all mothers are same. The role of woman as mother is almost divine. Imagine the pain she undergoes right from conception to birth and the pain for sons and daughters continues till she dies. It goes without saying that mother is the most caring a person have in this world. I listened to a drama about a man who asked her mother’s heart to please his lover. The mother happily gave her heart to the son. On the way he fell down and a voice came, O! merel lal ko chot to nahi lagi (My son! did you get hurt). Yes, mother renders selfless care for her children till she breathes her last. Man baap is jahan me sabse bari hai daulat Parents play role of a teacher, playmate, doctor, counsellor and many other roles at different walk of a person’s life. Shashi Tharoor resigns

Perhaps he was incompatible to the India political system which needs a different tactics and acumen or may be the expert of International diplomacy forgot his skills. Shashi Tharoor excelled as an author and diplomat but the man was misfit for politics in India is quite obvious. Shahsi Tharoor’s resignation as a minister of state for external affairs is a mishap for Indian politics which was getting rejuvenated by a person who came after a successful tenure from a forum none other than United Nations. The truth will only come out after the enquiry is conducted. The fast and time bound enquiry is needed to clear the air lest good people should avoid joining politics which is dominated by thugs. The game of cricket which Tharoor is so passionate about, caused his downfall. The nasty alliance of cricket which has got status of a religion in india, the film industry which adds glamour in this sport and the corporate which provide all the black and white money has started preying. God al

The idea whose time has come

"Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come" says Victo Marie Hugo, a French writer. Internet in particular and IT enabled technology in general are such ideas which have affected mankind more than any other technology. I am sharing some of the websites I found useful. http://khanacademy.org/ This website has more than 1000 useful videos on maths, science and economics etc. It is very useful for XI - XII students and those who are preparing for engineering and medical entrance and even for higher classes. The internet and other modern tools have bridged the gap and now common people have easy access to the treasure of knowledge and information. We must encourage our youngsters and elders equally to utilize positively the resources available on net. Surfing net will not make difference but what you surf definitely will. Being a bibliophile, I love net because it gives access to a vast collection of books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos and what not. In

Construction Work in India

Delhi Metro Accident Construction work is considered to be dangerous of all professions in the world. It is more dangerous in India because no proper safety regulation is in place. There is complete absence of safety culture at work places. Government’s callous attitude towards enforcement of safety regulations displays apathy towards its manual laborers in particular. Accidents and injuries are common scenes at work places cutting across sectors and industries in India. One can easily come across heart rending scenes at work places. The accidents at Delhi metro became breaking news only because it is a mega project of the country and government prides for its international standard. Indian tele-density is growing at the fastest pace in the world and we are proud of that growth. But look at the way towers are erected in India. Hapless workers erect 30 to 60 meter and higher towers without safety belt and protection from fall. These workers are forced to work at night without suffici

Education! Education!! More Education!!!

Education only Solution for Muslims’ backwardness Since time immemorial mankind has witnessed a universal truth that the educated and technologically advanced class rules. The society which does not encourage its people to learn, perish. Greek, Egypt, Rome et al. vanished because of death of creativity in those societies. Great civilizations died its own death due to lack of education. The British Empire was established on the strong foundation of technological advancement. It remained superpower till its education was supreme. The US could impose its hegemony on the world because it has technological and economic excellence. Japan could match with US and European countries; the technology with quality is the mantra behind. The technological advancement, economic growth etc. is attained and sustained on quality education. Education, particularly higher education can be liberating force from prejudice, atrocities and discrimination etc. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great reformer of 19th cent

We the NRIs

We the NRIs A recently arrived Indian shared his suffering. He left his well paying job in Mumbai, India and joined a company in Saudi Arabia spending hefty sum on visa processing and consultancy charges. Now his Saudi employer had reduced his salary to half of that promised. He had no idea how he could go back and join his previous job in Mumbai. I suggested him to approach Indian embassy attaché in Dammam. One day a friend of mine called from Dubai and asked to help a victim under similar situation. I call these people victim of abject poverty, greed, and of course exploitative, merciless Saudi employers. I travelled a long way to reach the hapless boy of under 20. He had been employed by a company in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia as a crane operator. On arrival he was asked to do manual lifting of heavy items which he never did earlier. He refused to do so. His employer beat him up and sent him to Mazra'a. Mazra'a is date farm generally located outside cities. He was asked t

Writing

Writing Writing is a powerful medium of expression. It conveys message to recipients most of the time in absence of writer. The beauty of written communication is that communication can be documented and can be referred to whenever needed. But written communication has some inherent difficulty with it. The writer writes a word or sentence as per his or her understanding of word or context. The social background, culture, mood etc. affect the interpretation. Writer and reader both add some individualism into it. Writer encodes his ideas or message in a package and the reader decodes it, sometimes correctly or sometimes not. The feedback which can be received readily in case of verbal communication is not possible in written media. Therefore, an effective conveyance of written media needs set of skills and knowledge. Effective writing needs a set of skills. One can’t write without clear knowledge and or information about subject matter. Good writing needs a good stock of vocabulary. A g
