Education! Education!! More Education!!!

Education only Solution for Muslims’ backwardness

Since time immemorial mankind has witnessed a universal truth that the educated and technologically advanced class rules. The society which does not encourage its people to learn, perish. Greek, Egypt, Rome et al. vanished because of death of creativity in those societies. Great civilizations died its own death due to lack of education. The British Empire was established on the strong foundation of technological advancement. It remained superpower till its education was supreme. The US could impose its hegemony on the world because it has technological and economic excellence. Japan could match with US and European countries; the technology with quality is the mantra behind. The technological advancement, economic growth etc. is attained and sustained on quality education. Education, particularly higher education can be liberating force from prejudice, atrocities and discrimination etc.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great reformer of 19th century also considered illiteracy as a curse and treated the menace by starting institutes and succeeded at MAO College, Aligarh. The MAO College which became AMU later on proved to be savior for the community and messiah’s charisma worked. The university produced eminent personalities at different walks of life. Dr. Zakir Hussain, an alumnus who became President of India, was a key figure behind development of Jamia Millia Islamia. JMI, also a central university is playing its own role in spreading education. The great Hakim Abdul Hamid sahib also suggested modern education as medicine and established Hamdard University which has attained a stature in the field of higher education in India. Hamdard study circle affiliated to the Hamdard University provides coaching and guidance for competitive exams like civil services, medical and engineering etc. which is a great service the circle is doing.

As substantial number of muslim establishments have come up in the country for spread of education. Quality education should be endeavor now.

Educated populace builds a strong community. But there should not be communalism in communal welfare. There should be positive competition among the communities living in any country.

Indian economic growth is also due to a sea change in its education sector. Today 62.6% of GDP comes from service sector which is fruit of quality education. The IT and IT enabled services, hospitality, tourism; healthcare etc. is only possible if quality education is imparted to service providers. According to Abdullah saleh sharif, an economist of international repute, Indian muslims are still in manufacturing, agriculture etc. which has low growth rate. The lack of quality education is a barrier for muslims to join the bandwagon on which Indian economy is growing.

The Sachar committee has presented a stark reality of muslims in the country. It is apparent that government cannot do much as it lacks political will and courage. So the community has to treat the menace on its own.
