The idea whose time has come

"Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come" says Victo Marie Hugo, a French writer.

Internet in particular and IT enabled technology in general are such ideas which have affected mankind more than any other technology.

I am sharing some of the websites I found useful.

http://khanacademy.org/

This website has more than 1000 useful videos on maths, science and economics etc. It is very useful for XI - XII students and those who are preparing for engineering and medical entrance and even for higher classes.

The internet and other modern tools have bridged the gap and now common people have easy access to the treasure of knowledge and information. We must encourage our youngsters and elders equally to utilize positively the resources available on net. Surfing net will not make difference but what you surf definitely will.

Being a bibliophile, I love net because it gives access to a vast collection of books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos and what not. In a country like Saudi Arabia where books are so costly and book store and so distantly located, you have internet as a savior. Book purchasing is a costly and time consuming affair. You may be lucky if you get a book of your choice. I had been searching for books on project sales but could not fine one in any Saudi book stores. I got it on Google books.

Another website I found immensely useful is

http://youtube.com/.

I am really thankful to the people behind this remarkable website. You can watch lecture delivered in IITs of India, MIT of US and lectures delivered on other forums. You can watch your favorite TV program you missed for some reason. I watched an incomplete movie “Roman Holidays” in Aligarh and had been searching for it to know the end and I got it on youtube.

But beware of the negative and toxic effect of such website which may cause more harm than help. We must inculcate strong moral and ethical values in our young generation to understand right and wrong.

Another remarkable website is

http://wikipedia.org/,

Though the website is not fully reliable but it provides useful information on any and every topic.

The other day I stumbled upon a blog

http://englishtrainer.blogspot.com/.

This may be useful for people who are struggling with pronunciation as the blog has more than 150 tongue twisters.

You can visit my own blog if you wish to.

http://pdeng.pdgroup.in/index.aspx

http://twitter.com/ is a social platform where you can tweet or can hear tweets of your favourite politician (e.g.Shashi Tharoor), journalist (e.g. Barkha Dutt), columnist (e.g.Vir Sanghavi) Film star (e.g.Shahrukh Khan) and sportsperson (e.g. Shane Warne). You can follow TV channels like BBC or CNN for updates on its programs. You can follow magazines like frontline for link of its current issues.

There are endless website and blogs which can be visited to gratify intellectual pursuit.

Lekin joh maza physical form mein kitaben parhne ka hai wo vrtual form mein kahan. Gulzar ne kya khoob kaha hai

kitabein jhankti hain band almaari kay sheeshon se
bari hasrat se takti hain
maheeno ab mulaaqat nahi hoti
jo shamein in ki sohbat main kata karti thein,,,,ab aksar
guzar jaati hian computer kay pardon par
bari bachain rahti hian kitabein

zaban par zaiqa aata tha jo in safhe palatne ka
ab ungli click karne se bas
ik jhapki guzarti hai
buhat kuch tah ba tah khulta chala jaata hai parde par
kitabon se jo zaati rabta tha kat gaya hai

kabhi seeny pe rakh ke lait jaate the
kabhi godi main rakhte thay
kabhi ghutno ko apne rahal ki soorat bana kar
neem sajday main parha karty thay, choote thay jabhee se
khuda nay chaha to wo sara ilm to milta rahega baad main bhi

magar who jo kitabon main mila karte thay sookhay phool
kitabein mangne, girnay, uthane kay bahane rishty bante thay
unka kya hoga
who shayad ab nahi hongay!

The message I want to convey here is that there is no excuse today if we don’t try and find means to enhance our own knowledge and information base. School and colleges have come to our home. We must welcome this development.

Ain mumkin hai ke soi hui ghairat jage I
Tum kitaben to parho jagte kirdaron ki II
